Almost 100% car-free paths. This ride should pose no safety concerns as long as you control your speed on the downhills, watch for walkers, and use caution at road crossings.

Sugarloaf Mountain stands as a unique sentinel over the town of Campbellton. The Terry Fox Trail circles around the base of the mountain.

A hiking trail departs the Terry Fox Trail and climbs steeply up to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain, yielding views of Campbellton, the Restigouche River, the bridge to Quebec and the Appalachian range. Find a safe spot to lock your bike and hike up or come back another day.
Driving directions
Drive approximately 3 hours north of Moncton to the city of Campbellton and follow the highway signs into Sugarloaf Provincial Park. The large lot at the bottom of the ski hill offers plenty of parking. The Headquarters Visitor Centre has clean washrooms and good trail maps of the park.
Route description
Although mapped from Sugarloaf Provincial Park, downtown Campbellton makes an equally good starting point. If starting from downtown, the ride will start off flat along the riverfront before climbing the hills around the base of Sugarloaf Mountain on the Terry Fox Trail.
Notes
A trail continues on past Campbellton to Atholville but sadly, I can’t recommend it. As you get closer and closer to the pulp mill in Atholville, you can almost start to “taste” the emission in the air. The mill blights an otherwise truly unique and beautiful landscape.
